Our Services
Journal & Ezine
Members receive either the Dance on Camera Ezine or Journal, a bi-monthly publication, depending on their preference. The subjects range from reviews and essays, news items regarding dance films, festivals, opportunities, and issues facing artists.
Artist Development
DFA can offer feedback on members’ works in progress, either privately or in public through our Dance Film Lab. We can offer contacts from our extensive database. Appointments can be made with DFA staff to answer questions and to discuss your needs.
Fiscal Sponsorship
Members may apply to DFA to gain a non-profit umbrella for their film or video projects, or presentation. The application process is simply to send by e-mail your project description, budget, plans for distribution, project team. By mail, send to DFA a sample of previous film or video, or your work in progress. See the list of current projects
Workshops
Marketing, Music Clearance, Choreography for Camera, and Editing. Recent clients include: Berkeley Carroll School in Brooklyn, New York; Kannon Dance Company and School in St. Petersburg, Russia; American Ballet Theater, and Frederick Douglass Academy in Harlem, NYC.
Photography Exhibits
Dance photography exhibits have been mounted in conjunction with the Festival at the Frieda and Roy Furman Gallery at Lincoln Center and The Puffin Room in Soho.
Post-Production Funding
Members may apply for DFA’s annual post-production grants. Proposals should include DVD or VHS of work-in-progress, budget, distribution plans, biographies of key members of the creative team, and brief description. Deadline for next application: May 31, 2007 Recent grants were given to Victoria Murphey for her cinedance,Nancy Stevens for her documentary on blind dancers (see .wealsodance.com, Sylvina Szperling for her cinedance involving her mother and daugher, Karina Epperlein for her documentary on the late Homer Avila, PHOENIX DANCE, David Licata for his TANGO OCTOGENARIO, and to Dan Geller and Dayna Goldfine for BALLETS RUSSES now distributed by Zeitgeist Films, and to Ken Glazebrook’s AFRICAN DANCE: SAND, DRUM AND SHOSTAKOVICH by Documentary Educational Resources. Still a work-in-progress is Mitch Teplitsky’s SOY ANDINO.
Discounts, Prizes, Distribution
Members receive discounts on selected new DVDS. Members may enter their film or video to DFA’s annual festival and attend all events at a discount. They are invited to all the events leading up to and during the festival as well as receive the festival program. DFA offers a Jury Cash Prize as part of the annual Dance on Camera Festival, as well as fees to the artists chosen for the touring programs around the world.
